Microsoft has introduced a new app for Windows users to make it available across devices that don’t run Microsoft’s operating system. This includes iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and all modern web browsers. The move signals the tech giant’s intention to create cross-platform accessibility, as well as the potential to shift Windows entirely to the Cloud in the future.

There are existing applications allowing remote connection to PCs but the new Windows App has been designed to enable users to access their Windows environment from any device. The preview, however, isn’t currently available on Android. It is also limited to business accounts, but will eventually be extended to personal accounts as well.

At a time where the ability to transition seamlessly between devices is becoming increasingly relevant, Microsoft’s step in this direction very much aligns with broader industry trends. At the moment the Windows App will be useful to those making use of Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and Remote Desktop Services but its scope could well be expanded.
