LinkedIn has announced that it will update its Terms Of Service on 3 November 2025. As part of this, it will begin using data from members in the UK and Europe to help train its content-generating AI models.
LinkedIn will use information from members’ public profiles and posts to improve its AI-powered features e.g. generating profile suggestions, content creation, and search functionality. However, it has confirmed that private messages will not be used.
You can opt out of having your data used in this way at any time via your account settings. If you have previously submitted a Data Processing Objection Form, you are still advised to check your settings and confirm that your opt-out preferences are still active.
Whilst we recognise the benefits of responsible AI innovation, we believe LinkedIn’s opt-out rather than opt-in approach raises valid privacy concerns, particularly given that LinkedIn data includes personal and professional contact details, rather than anonymised or operational data.
Opting out is the best solution, especially for users handling regulated, sensitive or confidential information (for example, in healthcare, legal or financial sectors). Doing so reduces the risk of personal data being inadvertently exposed or repurposed, helping to maintain privacy and data security.
