This is a reminder that Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 reaches end of support with Microsoft on 10 October 2023. After this date, these products will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. SQL Server 2012 already reached end of support back on 12 July 2022.
Microsoft recommends migrating applications and workloads to modern Windows Server versions of the Azure cloud to run securely. Azure offers options for virtual machines to for servers as well as options for SQL databases. For on-premises solutions, there is Windows Server 2022 and SQL Server 2019.
Eligible customers with Software Assurance under an Enterprise Agreement may also purchase ESUs (extended security updates) for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 and SQL Server 2012, which will last until 13 October 2026.
