Microsoft is changing the name of Office 365 to Microsoft 365 on April 21, 2020.
Microsoft 365 has been around for three years for enterprise and business customers, and includes Windows as well as Office licenses. It is now taking over the names of Office 365 products. Changes to all products will happen automatically and will only affect the name – no pricing or feature changes have been made.
The aim is to better integrate apps, such as Microsoft Teams, and to simplify what services and apps Microsoft offer. All Office 365 apps, for example Outlook, will remain the same. However, new features will be added to apps going forward and new apps such as the Microsoft Family Safety app will be released as part of the service.
The new product names are:
- Office 365 Business Essentials will become Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
- Office 365 Business Premium will become Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
- Microsoft 365 Business will become Microsoft 365 Business Premium.
- Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus will both become Microsoft 365 Apps*.
* Where necessary, “for business” and “for enterprise” labels will be used to distinguish between the two.
Office for Enterprise, Office for Frontline Workers, Office for Education and Office for Government will not change.
