The new MacBook Pro, Apple’s first laptop with a touchscreen, goes on sale 6 November 2026 in the UK.
Announced on 28 October, the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is available in 14-inch and 16-inch models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The retail prices are from £2,899 for the 14-inch and from £3,399 for the 16-inch.
The touchscreen marks a significant change in the company’s long-standing approach to laptop design. Historically, they have resisted introducing this feature, maintaining a distinction between the MacBook – designed around a keyboard and trackpad – and the iPad, designed for touch interaction. Questions therefore remain over where the touchscreen MacBook will sit within Apple’s ecosystem of devices. Considering the high price point, it is unclear to us exactly who the target audience is intended to be.
Apple is keen to stress that touch is an additional way to interact with the new MacBook Pro, ‘working in tandem’ with, rather than replacing, the keyboard and touchpad shortcuts already used. The touchscreen is intended to enhance interaction with creative apps and activities, such as graphic design, drawing, and manipulating 3D models.
A range of premium Windows laptops are already available with touchscreen capability, but we don’t generally recommend these models. Whilst they do offer benefits to some professional users, particularly for creative and design, there are additional cost implications. Touchscreens can be more expensive to repair, particularly a damaged display, and this can have a significant impact for businesses with teams and large-scale deployments.
