Over the next few years, approximately 80 percent of businesses and organisations are said to be migrating their workloads to public cloud technology and studies are proving this trend.

A study performed by hybrid cloud company OpsRamp surveyed 137 IT executives from medium to large organisations that already use cloud infrastructure, and found positive results to say this trend is growing and will continue to.

In this specific study, the research found the popular uses for cloud platforms are primarily in, production (40 percent), development and testing (32 percent) and disaster recovery (20 percent). Major benefits were also found in better scalability and flexibility (62 percent) and reduced IT setup and maintenance costs (94 percent).

Earlier this year, RightScale also conducted its sixth annual State of the Cloud survey of the latest cloud computing trends. The survey asked 1,002 IT professionals about their adoption of cloud infrastructure and related technologies. The study recorded that 85 percent of enterprises now have a multi-cloud strategy, up from 82 percent in 2016. The use of private cloud adoption is also falling and use of public cloud adoption rising — private cloud falls from 77 percent to 72 percent.
Security concerns have also fallen from 29 percent to 25 percent, from last year.
In total, 95 percent of respondents confirmed they are now using cloud technology in the workplace.

The most popular public cloud services are Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Both studies found that all respondents were at some stage of developing their cloud maturity, if not already at an advanced level. With increasing maturity of both cloud users and cloud providers, the studies are finding an across-the-board reduction in cloud challenges ie. security and expertise.

Cloud platforms are showing to have great positive benefits in collaboration, scalability and flexibility across all teams in workplaces, helping to keep collaborators up to date and accessible both inside and outside the workplace. The setup and maintenance of these systems are also low in cost as they reduce IT setup and maintenance fees.
