Reminder: Changes to the Google Maps Platform

Last year, Google announced changes to their Maps platform’s default colours and style. These changes will take full effect on 18 March, 2025.
While opting out had previously been possible, this will no longer be the case as the old default styles will be permanently retired on 18 March. We recommend that you confirm compatibility and styling as soon as possible. If you are still using legacy map styles, and styling is crucial for your site or app, ensure you opt in and customise to your specific requirements before the deadline.
Google has also announced that, starting in mid-May, maps using the roadmap maptype will default to rendering Road Level Details where available. By mid-August, this change will extend to all APIs. It should have minimal impact, as Road Level Details are already the default in Google’s consumer maps and this will only affect highly zoomed-in views (level 17+).
