The old adagé that Macs are virus free was never completely true and a report from Bit9 Carbon Black has proven that in 2015 it is the furthest from truth it has ever been.
The report showed that the number of OS X malware samples has been five times greater than in every year from 2010 – 2014 combined.
Windows and Android still dwarf Macs with the number of malware samples but Mac users can no longer rely on their rock solid OS to keep them safe. The impact to the Mac OS X system is significant enough for even the most optimistic Mac user to realize that their security must now be a paramount concern, with no sign of it slowing down. Especially with 45% of companies offering Macs as an option for their users.
What to do?
Keep OS (Operating System) programs up to date and learn basic browsing habits as well as ensure you have a strong internet security system. Learning your OS inside will let you have the knowledge to notice a problem, you will be able to recognise and have it dealt with properly before causing serious damage.
We always recommend keeping internet security systems up to date and these findings press this issue even further; as online security is ever becoming a day to day real issue that no one can hide from.
