Instagram have recently announced they are launching a new feature called, “Instagram Stories”. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom wouldn’t disagree with you if you thought the new feature resembled, if not is a blatant copy of, Snapchat. Systrom gives Snapchat full credit for what they have created but insists Instagram have put their own spin on it for their own followers.

Traditionally, Instagram posts have highlighted people’s most picture-perfect moments, where Instagram Stories has taken a turn on this and is encouraging spontaneous and fun temporary posts and videos, which then like Snapchat, disappear after 24 hours. This allows for more “imperfect” posting as the posts will never save to your profile photo grid.
Facebook, the owners of Instagram, had previously tried to buy Snapchat but they refused the offer. In turn, Instagram has taken matters into their own hands and created their own — which may come at a costly price for Snapchat with Instagram’s 500 million monthly active users.
