Yahoo has been bought by American telecoms giant Verizon Communications for nearly $5 billion in cash.
Verizon will combine Yahoo with AOL, who they bought only last year.
The company also plans to change its name from Yahoo to Altaba, after it turns over its email, websites, mobile apps and advertising tools to Verizon. The new name is meant to reflect Yahoo’s transformation into a holding company for investments in China’s e-commerce leader Alibaba Group and Yahoo Japan who are worth more than $40 billion in total.
Yahoo email, for the time being, is safe but anything can happen in the future. We advise that anyone with Yahoo email to possibly look at other platforms to move to in the foreseeable future.
