Google Translate’s ‘Word Lens’ has recently added Japanese to the growing list of languages the translation app supports. The helpful app and tool is available for both iOS and Android, and already supports 27 languages — an extremely convenient tool to have whilst travelling to countries where you are not familiar with their basic language.
The app even works without being connected to WiFi or without your phone data turned on.
To operate Word Lens, you simply open the Google Translate app, and the Word Lens feature, then point your camera at the text you wish to translate and the translation will appear on your screen in real time.
Word Lens, originated as an augmented reality translation app from Quest Visual and was acquired by Google in 2014. From then on, it was incorporated into the Google Translate app and released in 2015.
