Nokia 3310 was undoubtedly a cultural icon of the early noughties thanks to its simplicity, long battery life and incredible durability.
To date, more than 126 million Nokia 3310 handsets have been sold worldwide since its 2000 launch, so a rumour that it is re emerging is not surprising!
HMD — the company that now licenses and sells Nokia-branded phones, is planning “a modern version” of the Nokia 3310. They plan to unveil a re imagined retro phone later this month at Mobile World Congress, the annual technology trade show held in Barcelona.
There are rumours of several Nokia Android Smartphones lined up for launch: Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 — and one more for the Nokia 3310 relaunch.
The 3310’s main purpose is said to be intended as a trusty spare handset for those who don’t want to risk damaging their expensive iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7.
In terms of specs, it’s rumoured to expect 1.5in colour screen, 8GB internal memory, 1650mAh battery, built in FM radio and charging via micro USB. Given how important the 3310’s toughness was to its branding, we’re also expecting the relaunched model to be equally as or even tougher.
We will need to wait until the end of this month to know the full details but it is an exciting comeback in making an old much loved product fit today’s market.
