Mac users will be aware of the latest macOS Big Sur update. This update makes significant changes to the macOS operating system, moving from version 10 to version 11 for the first time. In moving to version 11, Apple made a significant change as to how older integrations work (kernel extensions), and as such this has required non-Apple companies and providers to update their own software and services accordingly.
Third party applications should now be compatible with Big Sur and thus we are now recommending that Mac users can update to Big Sur, if they have not done so already. ESET Security for example became fully compatible March 30th, including support for the Apple M1 chip in addition to existing Intel chips.
Please note, your applications should be updated before you proceed with the Big Sur update. And, as always with any major update, we recommend backing up your machine first before doing so – Mac users can take advantage of the easy-to-use Time Machine facility.
