As we enter the new year, we say a true final goodbye to Flash.

Flash was a software platform used to deliver rich content such as animations and graphics, which were often used in web games and video players. Although Flash was once a dominant platform for online multimedia content, it has gradually been abandoned with the advent of new web technologies (e.g. HTML5) and devices not supporting it (the first iPhone being key). There were also increasing security issues and risks, as Flash could be exploited to carry out unwanted actions on users computers (e.g. turning on webcams without consent).

Adobe notified users that from December 31, 2020, Flash will no longer be supported. As early as 2017 Adobe announced it would end support for Flash, due to the various security and performance issues.

Microsoft reported that since December 31, 2020, Flash will be removed from all browsers via a Windows Update, however we do recommend that users uninstall Flash now without being prompted.

See below for links for instructions to uninstall Flash software. Please note these do not remove Flash plugins from browsers such as Edge or Internet Explorer; this can be disabled manually or will be via the coming Windows update.
