According to a report at Apple Insider, Apple is set to become the latest of the tech giants to integrate AI features into one of its most popular apps. They are apparently being tested for the release of Safari 18, a new version of Apple’s web browser.

One of the new key features will be Intelligent Search, an AI-driven tool for browsing. It will use Apple’s on-device AI technology, the Ajax LLM, to identify key topics and phrases on a web page to streamline information retrieval. It will also use this process to generate concise summaries of the content.

The updated Safari 18 forms part of Apple’s effort to compete with other AI models, particularly OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Their focus on on-device processing and privacy-centric technologies could ensure a more secure user experience than the rival ChatGPT. It will likely also include a Web Eraser tool to remove banner ads or other unwanted sections of web pages directly from the browser.

In addition, Apple is working on an advanced visual search feature, scheduled for future release in 2025. It will build on the existing Visual Lookup feature but with enhanced AI capabilities.

These new features are expected to be confirmed at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10.
