Microsoft Defender is coming to Microsoft 365 Business Premium.
Microsoft Defender is a security tool which provides more features to further protect against malware and ransomware, including endpoint detection and advanced response capabilities.
Microsoft 365 Business Premium already includes protections at a data level (including Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and Anti Phishing). The addition of Microsoft Defender will add protections at a platform level as well (including Attack Surface Reduction, Endpoint Detection Response, and virus mitigations).
Defender was previously only available with Microsoft 365 Enterprise licenses. Microsoft Defender for Business brings this product to Microsoft 365 Business Premium licenses, giving access to organisations with up to 300 users. Microsoft is widening the availability of Defender because of a 68% increase in attacks over the last year.
Defender will be included in all Business Premium licenses at no additional cost. However, Microsoft are increasing their prices and terms for all licenses for Microsoft 365 from 1 March 2022, so please take this into account. You can read more about the changes to Microsoft 365 licences here.
