Google Universal Analytics to be switched off

In July 2023, Google Analytics 4 replaced Universal Analytics. All customers moved to Google Analytics 4 for website measurement by this date.The old platform, Universal Analytics, stopped processing new data, but access to both has continued to be available.

With this rollout complete, Google has now announced that Universal Analytics will be switched off in the week of 1 July 2024. This means that all access will be lost to any Universal Analytics properties and the API from July. This includes historic data, which will be deleted by Google.

We recommend that Google Analytics customers export previously processed data from Universal Analytics well before this date, in order to avoid the loss of this data.

How to export data from Universal Analytics

  • Move to Universal Analytics from Google Analytics 4 using the “property selector” in your Google Analytics admin area.
  • Open the report you’d like to export. Please note that Analytics exports the report as it is displayed on your screen, so make sure that you’ve applied your desired date range and all your report settings before completing the next steps.
  • Click Export – this can be found across from the report title.
  • Select one of the export formats:
    CSV
    TSV
    TSV for Excel
    Excel (XLSX)
    Google Sheets
    PDF
  • Your file will be generated automatically and available in the download directory on your computer

Microsoft launch new dashboard for Copilot

Microsoft has launched a new dashboard for Copilot customers to support the rollout of its features in the workplace.

Microsoft 365 Copilot integrates AI into the Microsoft 365 applications that you use every day. You can find more information about its capabilities and features in our article about Copilot here.

The new dashboard is currently powered by Microsoft Viva Insights, and Copilot customers are being offered access to all of Viva Insights’ features for no additional cost for a limited period. From Q3 of 2024, the dashboard will continue to be free for Copilot customers, but it will no longer be linked to, or require, a Viva licence. It can be accessed via the web app here.

Microsoft hopes the dashboard will support “business leaders to easily understand the impact of Copilot for Microsoft 365” in their workplace. The company wants to help “organisations maximise the value of Copilot for Microsoft 365” by providing actionable, data-driven insights about the adoption and impact of Copilot. It demonstrates how employees are using Copilot across different apps and summarises Copilot actions and any resulting behavioural shifts. Please note that organisations with fewer than 25 active users will not be able to see aggregated insights for privacy reasons.

In addition, Microsoft has also announced the general availability of the Microsoft Copilot Academy via the Viva Learning Teams app and web app. It is intended to enable users to discover how to make the most effective use of the AI assistant.

What you need to know about the new Microsoft Teams rollout

Microsoft has initiated the rollout of the new version of Microsoft Teams. There have been some changes to the schedule for this since the beginning of 2024, so we’ve summarised the key dates and information for you here.

Which version of Teams am I using?

There are currently three versions of the Teams app available; the easiest way to identify the one you are using is by its icon.

Icon Version Usage
Home The free version of Teams is available for personal usage. It has an online chat feature and offers free video calls of up to 60 minutes. It can come pre-installed on Windows. This client is not changing.
Classic (old) for work or school Microsoft has labelled the old work and education version ‘Classic Teams.’ This paid version has the full functionality but is being discontinued and will no longer be available after 1 July 2024.
New for work or school The new paid client is now being rolled out to Microsoft 365 users. The app requires a macOS of Monterey (12) or higher or Windows 10 version 10.0.19041 or higher, although this excludes Windows 10 LTSC. You may need to upgrade your OS to meet its requirements.

When is the rollout happening?

April 2024:

  • All new Microsoft 365 users will automatically receive New Teams. Classic Teams is no longer available to new customers.
  • Users of Classic Teams who have not updated their desktop or browser app will see an informational banner regarding the automated update.
  • The installation of New Teams will begin for users with the appropriate prerequisites (see table above for OS requirements) and it will become the default client.
  • The toggle to return to Classic Teams will continue to be available.

Mid-May 2024:

  • New Teams will be installed for any remaining users of Classic Teams.
  • The toggle switch to return to Classic Teams will be removed.
  • If a user has both desktop clients installed, Microsoft will attempt to uninstall Classic Teams once New Teams has been the default client for at least 14 days.
  • Users who do not meet the prerequisites for New Teams, or encounter installation issues, will not be blocked from continuing to use Classic Teams.

1 July 2024:

  • Classic Teams will no longer be available.
  • Users who do not meet the prerequisites to upgrade won’t be able to access Microsoft Teams via the app (the web version can be used instead).
